Participate in (t)here magazine's 1 Day of Art : Copenhagen, Denmark

    * Be featured in the internationally distributed and acclaimed art magazine: (t)here
* Host: 1 Day of ART
*
(t)here magazine's 1 Day of Art, invites Talenthouse artists to submit 3 pieces of artwork by August 12, 2010 to be considered for the prestigious 24 hour event that is being held in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 1st and 2nd 2010.

Once all submissions are received and reviewed, (t)here will select one talented artist to not only receive the opportunity to participate in the event, but to also receive two nights stay while in Copenhagen, provided by Hotel Fox. (t)here will also extend invitations to five other artists, who must arrange their own travel and accommodations to the event. The chosen Talenthouse artists will collaborate with six other artists from around the world to participate in 1 Day of Art.

1 Day of Art explores the creative mainstream and fringes of one major international city in order to produce the latest issue of (t)here magazine, an award winning international art magazine, in 24 hours. We draw from the city’s diverse arts community: photographers, painters, writers, performers, etc... and ask each person from a select group of 12 artists to create a unique body of work in 24 hours based on a randomly drawn subject. All work must be executed within the respective city limits. Film crews span the city to document each individual artist’s process — from beginning to end.

The final original art pieces provide content for the internationally acclaimed art magazine (t)here, and serve as a springboard for other branded exhibitions, installations and events. (t)here magazine is dedicated to creating content that is neither edited or editorialized. It is a museum book that provides an free flow of original artistic content from beginning to end.

SUBMIT YOU ARTWORK HERE: http://tlnt.at/a6BuM2

hello, i'm new to both add-art and this forum.
i really enjoy add-art, and how it has already improved my internet-viewing experience. it was a real shock the first time i saw a website with blocked ads. it didn't seem real at first. it's funny what the constant bombardment of advertising does to our brains..

anyway, i have a question. a critique in a sense:

if the point of add-art is to block advertisements, and replace it with "art", then why am i seeing blatant advertisements for 350.org? although the images double as documents of performances (groups of people organized to form the numbers '350'), and this 350.org website seems to be for a legitimate cause, they are still advertisements. this seems almost hypocritical.

not that i don't like seeing this type of advertisement as opposed to something more geared towards money-making, the whole reason i decided to install add-art was to escape advertisement completely.

The idea of add-art is fantastic. The questionable set isn't really great imo. With that said instead of going without art for 2 weeks, where is the directory that add-art places the .jar?

@Steve There are several stations on the radio and TV. There are other galleries than the ones featured at a show/museum. WE don't need to be locked into a single gallery for 2 weeks.

Hi everyone, just a question I thought I'd throw out into the ring. I'll be teaching a summer term course that starts in a few weeks. The focus of the course will be Internet Art and although it won't be all inclusive, I plan to talk a little about Firefox plugins. One of the projects for the students involves collaborative work. Perhaps its a bit late to make this happen this summer, but maybe in the future?

What would be Add-Art's take on an exhibition of student work? What if a student project revolved around the parameters of the Add-Art plugin?

An excerpt from Gabriel's statement about the works:

I love photography because of what it shows us about seeing. The depth and potential in a single moment of vision is often lost in the speed and entropy of our daily visual lives. Yet a photograph can extend time to infinity. I believe that even as Suzy and David's work and practice has evolved and expanded, neither have forfeited their privilege of being the seer, nor a responsibility to bear witness to others.

We have a new version of Add-Art out - 0.8.2! The changes wont be dramatic, but please install the update. The addon will be distributed entirely from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6846 now.

The new art is quality stuff too. The curator, Steve Dietz, is the artistic director of the 01SJ Biennial and executive director of Northern Lights. He also founded the new media art department and Gallery 9 at the Walker Art Center. The show he has put together is a survey of early net and related are works.

You have replaced my ads with images of muddy windows. Is this your idea of art? If so, you have brought out my inner philistine, and I have to say, your slavish devotion to a modern art aesthetic displays a fundamental lack of common sense on your part. Do you think most people want to look at muddy windows on their computer in the DEAD OF WINTER!?!? whenever they drive somewhere they have to trudge through the snowy sludge and then struggle to clean the crap off their windshields? Then they come into the office or get home, turn on the computer, and see more of the crap??? Think a little, guys, when you pick the images.

Oh, I'm sorry, that I have not the patience to "contemplate" the difficulty of these images and "confront" my "unidentifiable spaces".

This is one "SMALL DISCREET TRAUMA" I DO NOT WANT TO REPLICATE.

Hi, I think your idea is excellent! But for someone whose fav so far has been the views of Edo the current shows leave me a little flat - altho I do realise art is subjective and different for all of course, so its not a criticism just a statement. Which led me to thinking an option to go back to an older show would be excellent, maybe a dropbox under the options for the addin (options is currently grayed out).

Keep up the good work,

Paddy Johnson has put together a great new show of contemporary work, nearly all made specifically for Add-Art (thus, you!) You can read about the show here: http://add-art.org/content/future-online-advertising

New art released just in time for the U.S. Election

Jon Winet's The Electoral College. You can read all about it, but Winet has spent the past year documenting the election and made a great and diverse set of images for Add-Art. Enjoy the next two weeks...

Hello,
would you mind much to exclude the most agressive kinds of art as they can be more distracting than real ads? Especially the "electoral" series is quite distracting, there are so many faces looking at me right now - this quite defeats the purpose of the addon for me right now.

Thanks,
Stefan Osterlitz

The maracas worked well. The pixelated Renoir details did not. The hairy detail of the palm tree was particularly creepy.

My favorite so far is the textual piece. It was a pleasure to see it next to news items in the New York Times. It seemed to be commenting on what I was reading.

This is a great project. I look forward to every new update. Keep it up.

Steve on "NEW ART, NEW FEATURES! Update to 0.7.0"

Version 0.7.0 was released today!

NEW ART
This show is curated by Charles Broskoski, "Black Monochrome Paintings Cropped and Optimized for the Web." Charles found monochrome paintings by modern masters like Rauchenberg, Kelly, Malevich, Marden, Reinhardt, and Rothko. Because they've been optimized for the web, you can no longer see any of the details in the paintings. In fact, they're so optimized our last show was some 7mb, this one is 64KB.

here's a screenshot:
http://add-art.org/files/broskoski/miami-herald.png

NEW FEATURE
This release includes a new feature masterminded by Ethan Ham. You no longer need to update the whole add-on to get new art. When a new show is released, Add-Art will automatically download the images in the background and alert you when new art has been delivered. It will still come every two weeks, but you won't need to download a whole update. Just click "ok" when the dialog box appears and restart firefox and you'll start seeing new images. From now on, we'll only need to release updates when we make changes to the add-on.

Firefox 3
We're still working on getting Add-Art working in firefox 3. If you'd like to contribute, please join us on the mailing list http://add-art.org/content/contact and check out the development site: http://add-art.org/content/contact

Thanks!

We just released 0.5.4 today and it includes new art by Monica Studer and Christoph van den Berg, curated by Sarah Cook.

How to update:
Sometimes you'll be notified of an update automatically. If you want it to happen right now, do the following:

In Firefox click on Tools in the menubar. Then choose add-ons

A window with a list of all your plugins will appear. Click on "Find Updates" in the bottom left corner.

Once you see that an update is available, click the "Install Updates" button and let it download.

Once the plugin is downloaded, click on the "restart Firefox" button.

Regarding Firefox 3
We're working on an update for Firefox 3. If you'd like to be informed about when Add-Art will be ready for FF3, get on our mailing list. If you're a developer, we're looking for patches. Get started here: http://dev.eyebeam.org/projects/add-art/wiki/Add-Art
