As a new user I was excited to see my white space filled with new advertisement-free images. Unfortunately I have been noticing that my once empty space has now been replaced by art related advertisements.

Examples being "stay up energy drinks"

Can someone explain how replacing advertisements with other advertisements is ok? Even if the new ads are for much smaller businesses or non profits, it still feels unethical.

@Steve There are several stations on the radio and TV. There are other galleries than the ones featured at a show/museum. WE don't need to be locked into a single gallery for 2 weeks.

With Indian Art touching new levels every day and Indian artists getting increasingly appreciated for their work in India and abroad………a question many a times pervades my mind and disturbs my thoughts;

Burgeoning art lovers as these are………they can make very little distinction between a great and a mediocre art; to distinguish a meaningful art and a mere decoration piece is also difficult for them. They are not able to appreciate art as it is…………“art” in the form as it should be.

Let me take a work of Mr. M. F. Hussain, a very renowned name in Indian art and also known much more for his controversial works, to express my viewpoint.

Without hurting the sentiments of all religious groups and people who are protesting against works of the artist…………I personally share a slightly different opinion on Hussain’s work “Saraswati”.

The work, to me, is a predominant depiction of a skillful combination of art, science and culture. Quoting an eminent contemporary artist Paras Dasot “When an artist delves deep in his creation then everything else except his ‘art’ and ‘soul’ tend to loose their meaning….the confluence of which leads to creation of a beautiful artwork”. Hussain seems to have created this artwork on the said belief. When Goddess Saraswati, known to be the goddess of art, is deeply lost in art/music then her clothes, her physical presence all loose their meaning. This is mandatory as only then does her dedication to art reach its peak and she attains divinity.”

Apart from using fishes, peacock, lotus as objects to adorn the artwork, Hussain has also used the scientific principle “refraction” in his work. Surprisingly, our values and beliefs seem to be differentiating between a “mother” and a “female” as they point fingers to this artwork. Where on one hand the presence of a bosom completes the portrayal of a ‘mother’ the same is not necessarily true for the sketch of a woman. While we stand to appreciate the beauty of world renowned artworks ”Monalisa” and “Banithani” which merely depict a woman and not a mother, this artwork instead is an artistic depiction of the art goddess as “mother saraswati” and is completely dedicated to art.

Quoting Paras, “nudity, in the context of art, is like having a glimpse of a mother giving birth to a child.” Infact there is a huge difference in the way a doctor/artist perceives “nudity” as against the perception of a common man. Therefore, it is inevitable for a common man/the society to keep this fact in his mind while he tends to critically visualize an artwork. The said truth, if ignored will eventually lead to art losing its associated virtue and in turn the society loses its beloved art.

Hey,
Really enjoying add-art - thanks! One small complaint - when y'all send out the new images it triggers a drop-down alert telling me that it's happened. That's fine, but I have Firefox set up to open up multiple windows when I launch it and I"m getting a drop-down on every window. Not a huge deal but kind of annoying. Maybe you could set it up like most other FF addons so it opens up a tab in one of the windows instead of the multiple drop-downs?
I'm on a Mac, 10.4.11, FF 3.0.10
Thanks!

I'd like to see if i could help out with developing addart - principally with the idea of creating a version that supports loading either multiple curated streams -- as Steve has pointed out he's open to, in a thread here, AND/OR, a version that lets one replace the curated streams with flickr feeds, local photos, etc.

... but i can't get any dev info because dev.eyebeam is down?

... is it possible to just check out the source from svn/similar?

Add-Art replaces some images in Natwest's online banking. I don't know about other people, but I have to say that personally I feel a bit uncomfortable with add-art playing around with pages where I do my banking!
Other than that, great addon!

I've been using add-art since its beginning, but I suddenly started seeing ads on pages that previously had art. I thought a bunch of ads were suddenly getting through, and I didn't even want to look at those pages anymore.

Then I found out that I just needed to restart FF so that stuff would be installed. (I hadn't restarted FF in quite a while.) That's when the art "magically" reappeared. What a relief! So I just wanted to say thanks for add-art.

I installed Add-Art (along with ABP, which I already had), saw no art, and uninstalled it. Well, upon restarting FF, I had ads on every page. I had to uninstall and re-install ABP, along with my usual subscriptions, and nothing seems to be working. I have ads on every page, and ABP is doing nothing. Add-Art basically destroyed ABP. Please tell me how to fix this.

I have add-art installed and enabled. I've had AdBlock Plus installed and enabled for a long time (and have the most recent version). I subscribe to multiple block lists in AdBlock Plus. I have restarted Firefox several times. I still get nothing. No ads, no art. Any ideas.
