This is just to say that the new show is really annoying. I love the plug-in and I've told all my friends about it. I'm going to turn it off and set a Remember the Milk reminder to turn it back on, but I really don't like the animation, and I'd like it if you don't do it again.

Profanity not withstanding, I am also not pleased with the art. I understand that I can disable it and might go to the trouble, but I thought I would elaborate a bit on why the art fails.

Are you trying to be ironic by replacing ads with other ads? Remember what is driving membership here: People that no only block ads for the very features which this exhibit contains (flashing gif's etc) but who also want to fill the white space with something appealing and/or thought provoking.

I get the "inside baseball" nature of this dermatologist's ads for New Yorkers, and might even be able to enjoy the "Crazy Eddie" nature of the ad campaign, but all in all, this exhibit diminishes my experience online instead of enhancing it.

Again, it's not the art, it's the context-clash.

Nobody has had me sign a contract to look at ads. Not on my television, not in my movie theater where I'm now treated to banal commercials in addition to trailers for Disney crap, nor has anyone ever, ever had me sign a contract to look at shitty ad banners on the intarwebs.

What, pray tell, could I possibly be doing wrong by refusing to do something for which I am, in no way, contractually obligated to do?

That's a good idea. What we are actually planning for is to expand the number of curators. We want to make it so that there are lots of different providers of art for add-art. That way, you don't have to trust our idea of what art is. (I'm not a huge fan of some of the past shows either.) But in the future you could chose the brooklyn museum of art, or some other provider and just subscribe to their shows. Hopefully that makes more folks happy.

Hi, I think your idea is excellent! But for someone whose fav so far has been the views of Edo the current shows leave me a little flat - altho I do realise art is subjective and different for all of course, so its not a criticism just a statement. Which led me to thinking an option to go back to an older show would be excellent, maybe a dropbox under the options for the addin (options is currently grayed out).

Keep up the good work,
What comes to well-being, i'm interested in stuff i get paid for, or things i like (there's nice .jar with japanese graphics i'm using instead of new packs).
I guess it's just normal to filter the information flow, that's why i've installed Add-Art, not to look at some people thinking their show is somewhat impotant.
I can say that the whole world is watching very important developments in my backyard, and with some PR funding many would believe this =)

Paddy Johnson has put together a great new show of contemporary work, nearly all made specifically for Add-Art (thus, you!) You can read about the show here: http://add-art.org/content/future-online-advertising

One note, this show had two images that were NSFW, so they are not included in the general release. I'll be posting instructions on how to get the "unrated" version soon. Later, we'll have this more automated.

I am really enjoying Winet's work in this context - I particularly like that it doesn't "look like art". The work is more documentary in style - the appearance of this work over the past week during my time on the web has been an ongoing experience of the unexpected - the work blurs the lines between the editorial images on various news sites such as nytimes or salon - it is odd and indeed a bit jarring to see "professional" news photography contrasted with what are essentially snapshots taken by an artist infiltrating these national events of political theater. I keep finding myself being surprised by these images and their forced connections to news imagery - last night the one of the chubby convention goer was staring longingly at the image of Obama giving his historic acceptance speech. I keep forgetting I have adart and find myself being surprised by this work in a way that is quite fascinating.

think about this:

People that block ads aren't the ones that click and buy stuff anyway. There's no loss.

More arguments: ads don't generate money.

More than anything, I can do whatever I want with the content once they offer it for free online. Just like I can look at a free print newspaper and glance at the ads, or cut up a free newspaper and take out all the ads. Or burn it. It's mine. The companies have no rights to hold over me.

Nice thing the feed select feature is on the way. I'm not a developer though, but other thing is i know good digital artists who may wish to submit their art for the project.
Of the election - there are different kind of people, some are interested, some not.
I personally just hate politics, due to issues i won't talk about here. And i don't know a single person who's interested in US elections (Halloween is more attractive =) "

I respect opinions and likes and dislikes, however I feel like that's rather childish. Not having at least a minor grasp of political on-goings or saying you're "not interested" communicates a concomitant disinterest in your own well-being, which is deplorable for an adult, and not knowing "a single person who's interested in the US elections" makes me sad for you. The whole developed world is watching our elections, and sadly people in other countries seem to have a better grasp than the citizens whom the election is for. Ridiculous!

I do not consider these new PHOTOS to be good examples of ART replacing advertisements.

While photos can be art, these are not creative nor inspiring nor beautiful.

Can someone please share an .jar file I can use or explain how I can create my own.

Ah good idea. I could start doing that in the future. (I also need to create an RSS feed) Right now it's linked off the homepage under "Current Show" but I could make a permalink. Thanks and noted Frank...

Hi Guys, Was it possible to have some perma-link to the current show on add-art.org, so I can have a fixed bookmark in my browser as a shortcut to the information on the current artist at any given time.

Regards
- Frank

P.S. I love the idea of artads :o)

Hello,
would you mind much to exclude the most agressive kinds of art as they can be more distracting than real ads? Especially the "electoral" series is quite distracting, there are so many faces looking at me right now - this quite defeats the purpose of the addon for me right now.

Thanks,
Stefan Osterlitz
